About Me

I take pride in my commitment to pursuing a meaningful education. I view my college career as so much more than simply earning a degree, and approach every new challenge in Computer Science eager to master it. My strongest language is by far Java, as I’ve taken 3 formal Java courses and also worked heavily over last Summer and Fall in Java based Android Mobile development during my undergraduate research. When I first began, I had absolutely no experience with the Android OS. Still I worked hard, some weeks clocking in up to 50 hours of pouring over the Android API.

Within just one month, I built LifeLine. It interfaces with a device’s native sensors to autonomously detect and respond to falls, requiring no input from the user. It is capable of then dialing 911 if the user does not indicate that they are alright. This solved a huge problem with similar devices, in that an incapacitated person can’t trigger the help button following a stroke or similar scenario. I gave an award winning presentation on ‘Lifeline’ at Princeton’s Medical Devices Symposium. I also applied for a patent, and submitted paper for peer review through MIT & IEEE. All before the summer ended.

In my spare time I’ve been teaching myself HTML and CSS in order to build a web page, and I’ve also been trying my hand at learning JavaScript. I started by recreating an Encryption program I had previous written in Java. I now have a server side version of my Crypto tool which I learned a lot from porting to JS. This Spring I’ve been tinkering with two MCUs, the ATmega328P programmed in C/C++ and the ATSAMD21E18 which can run Python. Programming these gave me a unique experience learning the these languages, for instance writing Interrupt Service Routines and triggering them by applying voltage directly to the external interrupt pins is something I could not do with my laptop and IDLE. I’m never afraid to dive into something completely new to me, in fact I think it’s one of the most fun ways to learn.
